To increase page load and decrease user frustration, the image should not be more than 800px in width. This means when you take a picture with your camera, make sure to shrink the image before you upload it to the site. Let’s say you upload an image that is 4000px wide which weighs 2mb. Then you add it to the page and make the image smaller so it is 400 px wide. The image still weighs 2mb on the site, and will slow it down.
